Shetland 2006 recap, by Commissioner Tim Windt
What a great season of participation by 24 teams and about 280 players including about 10 girls this year. Having had to run the entire league by myself, I would like to extend a HEARTFELT thank you to the excellent managers and coaches we had this year, they were very responsive to last minute changes and adjustments.
The comments I heard a lot during the season was the great website that OYA has and the information obtained each time it was accessed.
Shetland is usually the first exposure to organized baseball that children ages 3 to 6 yrs old experience. This is a time when the basics of hitting and throwing are taught and an understanding on where the positions are on the field. I only wish the enthusiasm for the game at this age can be transcended down the years. Having been a manager for two years, I was able to witness the elation on young faces as they made their first hit or catch. Sorry Visa, but those moments are “priceless”.
Ironically, the season ended with a mini-crosstown classic between the White Sox and the Cubs, with Tommy Windt of the Sox hitting a bases clearing homer off his “old man”.
THANKS to all the parents that helped on the fields, the debt to your presence can never be repaid. Please participate next year as we are always looking for great teachers to continue the tradition of OYA.
Oh by the way, the standings were not posted but believe it or not, all 24 teams were undefeated!!!!!!!!!!!
