Letter From the President:

This year our OYA Board of Directors has continued to re-focus our programs on what really matters -- the kids.  As a result we started the year by re-writing our Mission Statement.

"The goal of OYA Boys Programs is to enhance the quality of life for the youth of our community, by striving to provide quality baseball, basketball, and volleyball leagues, where players can learn and develop fundamentals, skills, and good sportsmanship."

Based on this, we added a statement of Coach Responsibilities (found on the Mission page of this website) which begins:

"We, as members of OYA Boys Programs (OYA), beleive that our work has a direct impact on the youth we coach and an important impact on the quality of life in our community."

With this in mind, I begin this message by giving a heartfelt thanks to all the hundred or so Coaches, and even more Assistant Coaches, who adjusted their work schedules and gave up so much time!  You have dedicated many hours of time to the players on your teams, to help teach them the game and life lessons. This time means so much to the kids!

Next, thanks to our Basketball Commissioners, who spent time appointing coaches, running meetings and drafts, building the rosters, and handling whatever other issues that come up in your divisions, assigning makeup games, and tracking standings.

Thanks to our OYA Officers: Mike Malaychuk for ordering and picking up trophies, Dan Nagel for ordering and picking up uniforms, Bill Balmer for help with equipment, and Tim Swiontek who underwent the monumental task of building our basketball schedules this year, for grades 3 through 12.

Thanks to our Office Manager Diane Niehaus. For OYA, Diane is like the "priceless" at the end of the well known TV commercial. Organizing and tracking down paperwork, balancing program fees, mailings, and registration flyers, you name it.  Now Diane is even maintaining our on-line registration database for on-line team rosters.

Thanks to our Board Members, who are all extremely dedicated to making this organization the best it can be. There is always so much happening, so much we are doing at the same time, and so many ideas (followed by passionate debates over if, and how, to implement changes). The younger versions of Tony Marchese and John Sass suggested we start a reality show that follows us around. They think this would be a real spectacle.

Most of all, I want to thank my wife Mary Pat, for understanding.

Players, Good Luck in 2007!

Have fun, Tony Marchese, OYA President.
