Pinto – Commissioners: John Carmody and Mark Lehman

Pinto Season Recap, by John Carmody

The Pinto Season went through its first year within the new format.  With 32 teams, we used the names of every major league team, and doubled up the names of the White Sox and the Cubs. In an effort to maintain some competitive balance, no team is allowed to have more than 7 second year players or more than one player who is “playing up”.  Players were primarily divided up by subdivision, except for players returning to teams from the previous year.

Within the league itself every team won at least one game.  The National League Mets were the only undefeated team.  Five teams played 20 or more games, which was partially due to the lack of spring rain. Over half of the teams participating had more than 9 wins which speaks the competitive balance within the league.

The Pinto League focuses mainly on furthering the teaching of fundamentals which began in the Shetland League, and the introduction to pitching and catching. We also want the children to learn about competition, and to take pride in themselves and their team.  We want every child’s experience at this level to be positive, and to leave them, hopefully, wanting to come back for more next year!
